Truffle Pig Preview for Super Dungeon Explore:Forgotten King!

Okay, it is time for the Friday update! Today’s is going to be short with three card previews, since I am up to my arms in rules edits right now.

SPARKLEBURST!

Speaking of rules edits—

You are all radical + infinity!

A “mere” 1980’s BMX bike was not radical enough to contain you. In a single week you have sent us an incredible amount of fantastic feedback on the Classic Rules. Soda Pop would like to thank you and shake you warmly by the hand. You’re helping make Super Dungeon Explore even more awesome. How cool is that?

Okay, lets preview some cards so I can get back to rules and you can get back to having a most excellent Friday.

KINOSHROOM

Welcome to the Emerald Valley. A place of dreams that waft through the trees like wisps of clouds. Deep within this secluded vale the dragon Glimmerwing conceals her land through fae enchantments and glamors. Here the kodama and kinoko frolic and play.

The Kinoshroom is the lesser of the kinoko. On the surface these little bits of fungus don’t seem like much, but they have a surprising utility that makes them one of the most potent tools in the Consul’s arsenal.

A STR of 3 blue is pretty standard for lesser minions. It keeps them at even odds for most Hero’s defense in the early game but relies on the Mighty Monster chart later in the game. A big goose egg (zero) for ARM makes them ready to die easily as well.

However, it’s in their abilities that these little mushroom warriors shine. Spongy makes it so anytime you make an offensive action against the Kinoshroom you are pushed one square away. Forcing Heroes to gobble up movement if they want to stay in range. Follow that up with Soporific which triggers when you destroy the kinoshroom, inflicting the Hero with the status effect Slow, reducing their movement to half.

Next we hit the support action Bounce which is a simple action that lets the Kinoshroom push a Hero one square. It may not seem like a lot but it requires no roll. When you combine all the abilities amongst a horde of mushrooms, your Heroes are getting bounced around, moved out of position, and then suffering Slow, reducing their ability to get where they need to go.

Of course a clever Consul will use that control movement to position Heroes for the —

OKOSHROOM!

The Okoshroom is the daddy (or mommy, who can tell with fungus?) mushroom. He comes in with three mighty action points and 3 blue dice for STR.

Wait.

What?

Only 3 blue dice you cry?

Yes we say. Take a look at the mighty Whirling Shitake ability below. That is a one action point Wave 1 offensive action. The Okoshroom is on a large base, so the Wave is hitting 12 squares. If your Kinoshrooms have done their job that is a lot of Hero crunching.

He backs it up with the same Soporific and Spongy abilities as his lesser kin. A healthy four hearts, and a bargain skull point cost of 2.

Oh, then there is Temperamental Toadstool (Yes, we know it’s misspelled. The cards are still in editing.) This support action has no range so may only target the Okoshroom, and gives the big fella Backlash. So anytime he wins a defense roll the Hero takes a wound instead. Apparently he really never stops spinning!

TRUFFLE PIG

Oh look here. The Truffle Pig is the high STR, single-target bruiser you were hoping the spawning point would have.

A nice 7 movement points, 2 action points, and 2 hearts, make the Truffle Pig a stout little boar. Two red dice for STR and 1 star for ARM are good tough combat attributes.

When the Truffle Pig really needs to take on a stubborn target he can use Tusker to increase his STR to 3 red dice and Knockdown his target.

Then we get to the delightful Funky Fungus Sniffer support action. This lets the Truffle Pig root around in the dirt and spawn extra Kinoshrooms from your spawning pool! Nothing like spawning extra monsters without exhausting your spawning points. That’ll do pig, that’ll do.

Okay, like I said this was going to be a short one. We’re still working on rules and will continue to show you more as layout continues. John is back from China next week so we’ll let you know how that end of things is going, as we continue to keep you up-to-date!
