Privateer Press is seeking a highly organized, enthusiastic individual to take the helm as its new Editorial Manager.

We produce the acclaimed tabletop miniatures wargames WARMACHINE® and HORDES®, the pre-painted miniatures game Monsterpocalypse®, the Iron Kingdoms® Full Metal Fantasy and Iron Kingdoms® Unleashed roleplaying games, and the LEVEL 7® survival-horror board game line. We also publish the bimonthly No Quarter™ magazine and the Formula P3™ hobby tool and paint range in addition to the other products in our catalog. Editorial Manager
Job Description
The Editorial Manager (EM) ensures that all text Privateer Press publishes is produced to the company’s quality standards. To this end the Editorial Manager builds, trains, and maintains a team of internal and external (freelance) editors and, in conjunction with the Writing Manager, works with other teams as necessary to utilize staff for writing assignments as well as carrying a personal editorial workload. The Editorial Manager also defines and directs editorial processes and handles some project management duties.
Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities
• Personnel management – The EM oversees Staff Editors and provides support and feedback for staff on other teams who undertake editorial tasks.
• Editorial project delegation – The EM assigns and oversees editing projects.
• Editorial process – The EM creates and maintains the editing and proofreading process for Creative Development with the goals of preventing errors through modifications in the production process and allowing for more efficient text and proof review.
• Freelancer management – The EM contracts and utilizes freelance editors as needed to meet Privateer’s needs. Contracts are executed via the Contract Manager.
• Company style guide management – The EM maintains the company style guide and works with staff company-wide to see that our copy adheres to it.
• Editorial workload – The EM sees that all published material is reviewed for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to the company style guide and continuity. The EM also manages version control of edited documents and proofs, organizes multi-person proofing efforts, and works with Project Management to finalize all published materials.Secondary Responsibilities
• Product management – The EM assists Project Management with various project management tasks.
• New program development – The EM helps implement and support new programs to improve writing and editorial quality and productivity.
• General process improvement – The EM analyzes the processes utilized in Creative Development and looks for adjustments that can improve efficiency, accuracy, and quality.Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Experience managing teams of at least four people on complex projects required. Experience managing editors or writers is a plus.
- Minimum of four years’ work experience in print editorial, publishing, or a related field. Experience in the hobby game industry preferred.
- Strong knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and syntax and comfort working with a variety of authorial voices. Final candidates must be able to pass Privateer’s editing test.
- Familiarity with editorial style guide usage, preferably Chicago Manual of Style.
- Hobby game experience/knowledge. Solid knowledge of all Privateer Press game products is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with other departments
- Proven project management and time management skills, organization, reliability, and a strong ability to multitask
- Acute attention to detail at all levels and through multiple iterations
- Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
- Action-oriented and able to complete tasks quickly and independently
- Computer and software (Word, Excel, project management software) skills
- Ability to provide support at conventions and events as assigned, which may require travel in or out of the U.S.
