A Word from the Developers

Greetings, pilots!

We made two small but significant changes to the 100-point Dogfight tournament rules. First, we made full wins significantly easier to achieve. Under the new rules, a player only needs to destroy at least 12 squad points (the lowest squad point cost of a single ship) more than his or her opponent, which means players no longer have to build their lists with total annihilation in mind and can opt for a slightly more tactical, defensive game if they wish. Second, we gave players with lower squad point totals the ability to choose whether they want initiative or not. Some lists benefit from having initiative, whereas other lists are stronger when opposing ships move first. Now, players can tailor their lists to their own liking without having to worry that a lower squad point total will guarantee that they have initiative.

While the revitalized 100-point Dogfight will remain the signature tournament of X-Wing, the new rules also introduce another official format: Escalation. Escalation is a tactical and list-building challenge, as players must continuously add new ships and upgrades to their existing squads, from an initial 60-point squad all the way up to a 150-point squad. It’s a format full of difficult choices and unique match-ups, offering players an entertaining change of pace.

We’re also thrilled to present a thorough reworking of the X-Wing FAQ. As this game continues to grow and thrive, it’s important for the FAQ to grow with it. The new FAQ is organized alphabetically by card, so that if players come across a confusing interaction during a game, they can simply flip to the relevant card or cards, and if they have a more general question they can find it in the general FAQ at the end of the document.

We worked hard to answer every question we received in a comprehensive and easy-to-navigate way, as well as present tighter rules and regulations for our more serious competitions. We also gathered all the new rules found on reference cards and in rule sheets in one location, added a rules clarifications section that expands on and better explains core rules concepts, and introduced a competitive rules addendum for serious tournament play. Newer and experienced players alike should take the time to read through FAQ 2.0 for a deeper and more thorough understanding of the game!

Fly casual,

Alex Davy and Frank Brooks
