Making the Jump from Bolt Action to Konflikt ’47
Are you a regular Bolt Action player? Have you seen the mechs and want to find out more about the Weird War world of Konflikt ’47? Then grab your beverage of choice, sit back and have a quick read as we take a look at expanding your Bolt Action to Konflikt ’47…
What is Konflikt ’47 exactly?
Konflikt ’47 is set in a world very much like ours; in fact, until the middle years of World War II, its history is nearly indistinguishable from our own. However, in 1943 the order of the world changed with the development of atomic weapons. The testing and use of these weapons set in motion a chain of events that would forever change the nature of the conflict and directly lead to a new style of warfare.
Whilst testing nuclear weaponry, the US produced a side effect that changed history forever. At the test site, a Rift in the fabric of space formed in the heart of the testing facility. Before the Rift was understood, the US continued their testing and eventually developed nuclear weaponry, one of which they dropped on Dresden inadvertently creating another Rift, which the German scientists then started to examine. Thus began a race of trying to understand the properties of the Rift and how to apply them to win the war.
The Konflikt ’47 rulebook is a stand-alone rule set designed using the Bolt Action World War II tabletop wargame. It contains all the rules, background and forces needed to play an alternate history or science fiction wargame set in 1947 using a fictional variation of history.
In terms of tabletop, you can actually play Konflikt ’47 with just your Bolt Action figures and ignore fielding all the new weird and wonderful stuff, but this would inherently put you at a disadvantage. Konflikt opens up a whole new world with new army compositions and battle challenges! Let a Soviet Ursine go beserk amongst some infantrymen, or have a Tesla cannon shred through a field full of Totenkorps (undead soldiers!) or even have some of your infantry almost impervious to small arms fire, becoming super soldiers.
Below are examples of what each Nation has explored using the new rift technology.
German Units
Fighting a 2-front war, the Germans have used the Rift to almost its fullest extent, ‘evolving’ some of their men to becoming the deadly Schreckwulfen or the Nachtjäger, creating a new breed of vehicles with their walkers, re-equipping their men and tanks and even bringing the dead back to life!
Soviet Units
Untrusted by their former allies the Soviets have had to develop their tech-base on captured enemy equipment. Going to the same extremes as the German forces, turning some of their men into deadly Ursine warriors, genetically altering some of their women into almost superhuman powerhouses as well as also equipping some of their troops and vehicles with new armour and weaponry. And now they’ve also started their own breed of walkers.
British Units
The British, using shared information with the US, have stayed away from personal augmentation and horrifying genetic mutations and instead focused on accelerating artificial intelligence to help keep the monsters at bay. Co-ordinating with their Allies, they further developed the armour and weaponry of their troops and also developed their own walkers.
American Units
The Americans decided to empower their own troops and vehicles with new technology rather than performing dangerous augmentations or producing potentially dangerous AI. The Americans have developed new weaponry and armour for their troops and vehicles, but have mainly produced walkers as a counter to the new monsters on the battlefield.
Resurgence Supplement
This book is the first supplement for Konflikt ‘47 and aims to develop the original rulebook in a number of different directions. The largest addition is the much anticipated Imperial Japanese Army Lists, but Finnish players will find out what has befallen their country in the latter years of the war as well. The errata and any clarifications from the original rulebook were consolidated into this book as well.
Full of amazing illustrations, detailed stories, and full-colour art, in its 100 pages this book also contains:
- Background and History
- New and Revised Rules
- New units
- Japanese and Finnish army lists
- New Scenarios and Rules
Japanese Units
Their German allies have shared the technology capable of achieving superiority over their enemies, allowing Japan to throw their hat into the weird war. Focusing on developing new weaponry and vehicles rather than performing individual enhancements. This results in a generic focus on new armoured infantry and vehicles, including walkers. Additionally, the Japanese have been critically low on supplies of almost everything, including active duty capable men. The result is another type of re-animated ‘undead’ soldier which has the potential to horrifically turn the tide of the war in the Pacific…
