Insider 8-11-2014

I was heavily involved in the creation of the Privateer Pins line, and it turns out that while I thought we were making them for the community, I might have been making them for me.

I love these pins. To me, everything about them is right. The level of detail, the quality of the paints and metals, even the little Privateer shield backers. I’ve enjoyed the thrill of the hunt for comparable collectibles in the past, all the way back to baseball cards when I was kid.

Most significant, I think, is the multiple points of entry (pardon the pun) into collecting them. You can come at this from more than a half-dozen different ways—faction symbols, factions themselves, warcaster/warlocks, warjacks/warbeasts, zombies, gobbers, even chibis (that’s the cute little versions of characters). You can focus on WARMACHINE or zero in on HORDES. Or you can be a completist.

Like me.

These are most of the June, July, and August pins. The RAM Beer pins, which you’ll see at Gen Con, are among my favorites here. Chibi Siege Brisbane, unfortunately, was on my desk at the office at the time I took the photo. I’ve also since replaced the No Quarter sample prototype with a version of the limited-edition final pin. My all-time favorite to date? The Warpwolf. The one I think is most destined to be a player favorite? My money is on the Pistol Wraith (diagonally down to the left of the Cygnar faction pin), though the limited number of Exulon Thexuses (Thexi?) available at Gen Con may drive it to the top.

Plus, there are more to come that could change those calls. The September pins are already in the hopper, and I’m looking at more wall space in my family room for the next framed set. After all, I still have two more frames.

So, if we did a Stormwall pin and a Mammoth pin, I’d be ready.

But thankfully, we’re not quite ready for that yet—which saves me from buying masonry nails just to hang them on the wall.

Hope your own pin collection is growing well!
