Insider 2-23-2015

Week 2 of the Journeymen League has come to an end and it’s going great! In this particular league there are 36 participants in total with only six having played the game previously. As such, at this point in time the majority of games have been learning experiences for the participants. Learning the mechanics of Focus, Fury and power attacks can be a daunting task, but the slow grow style of the league gives players lots of time to learn and practice. That’s my favorite part about this league: all the new players and all the excitement they bring to the game.

Alright, that’s another week down and another mini painted so let’s get to it!

15pt games with:

Bloodseer

Vayl loves to use her fury and I am incredibly happy with my decision to add the Bloodseer to my force. The Bloodseer’s utility in the form of primal magic has been instrumental in controlling my enemy’s movements and getting me the charge lanes I want. Vayl was amazing at casting spells before, but the added support of Telemetry almost guarantees her spells find there mark. I have found this army incredibly helpful with introducing the newer players in the league to the unique playstyle that is Legion. Being able to cast movement animi from 3 separate vectors is something which is difficult to explain, but easy to show. At this point I feel pretty good about my battle group, but in the coming week battles are about to get a whole lot bigger!

Looking forward to week 3 and expanding the army to 25pts:

Angelius + Blighted Nyss Shepherd

Adding an Angelius will bring a lot of great abilities to the table, such as Serpentine and Armor Piercing—and it’s an awesome miniature to boot! Running three heavy warbeasts and one light warbeast will provide a huge amount of fury, and a frenzied warbeast on a crucial turn could spell disaster. Adding a Blighted Nyss Shepherd to the list will help offset the large amount of fury I’ll start accruing.

Even with the added versatility granted by including a Shepherd, I don’t think a third heavy warbeast is the ideal next step. As I brought up in my last Insider, I believe one of the primary responsibilities of a veteran player is to help new players learn the rules. With that in mind, I’ll expand to include a unit.

Striders Rangers + Strider Deathstalker x2

Up to now, the development of my Legion of Everblight force has had a distinct lack of ranged attacks. With this in mind, I’ll pick up a unit of the new plastic Strider Rangers. As games start to grow and players add units to their armies, I’ll need a tool for clearing out opposing infantry. The Striders’ high speed and the long range of their weapons will provide a great threat range to harass my opponents’ armies.

I also want to add a couple solos to round out the versatility of my force. A pair of Strider Deathstalkers will bring some serious firepower to my army, and their Leadership ability will make my Strider Rangers even better. Because they are solos, they can run around on their own to counter my opponent’s solos and support pieces. Adding units and solos will help me to demonstrate the rules for my opponents, and as a veteran player that’s my main goal for this league.

So there you have it: another week down, and next week’s expansion is ready to go!
