Insider 10-3-2014

A while ago, I wrote a blog about my converted Khadoran and Cygnaran War Hogs. Well, I think it’s time to follow that up with some Cryx and Protectorate Road Hogs!

I was very excited to start on my Cryx-pig because when I was planning this project, I noticed the Road Hog and the Corruptor both have a grabbing claw on their right and a gun on their left. Hooray for happy coincidences! The Corruptor has always been one of my favorite ’jacks, too—with those cool poison vials—so I was stoked to liberate those from a plastic kit.

I clipped out a Helljack shoulder from the same kit and just sculpted in the Road Hog’s uncovered shoulder because I figured this guy could pull off the asymmetrical look. For that last little bit of Cryxian goodness, I topped everything off with some smokestacks from the Deathjack.

For the “Pigtectorate” Road Hog, I didn’t have the same happy coincidence as I did with the Cryxian one, so I had to get a little creative with a heavy warjack kit.

For the left arm, I used the Reckoner’s gun; for the right, I clipped the hand out of the Castigator’s right arm and replaced it with the Road Hog’s original claw. The original Road Hog’s legs didn’t fit the Protectorate look, so I replaced them with the heavy ’jack legs. The shoulder pads were agonizingly clipped and trimmed to fit on his shoulders.

Apparently I’m a sucker for punishment, as I also modified the goggles into a visor. The smokestack caps were stolen from the High Reclaimer, and just to add a little extra insult to the Menites, I used the Sanctifier’s arm guard as a butt flap.

Of course, the Road Hogs wouldn’t be complete without their Razor Boar buddies! These guys were extremely fun to make and paint, and they’re quite a conversation starter on the tabletop.

Last but not least, here’s a group shot of Carver with his faction-themed beasts! It goes without saying, none of these big piggies are tournament-legal, but if you’re in it for the casual games and some extra crazy hobbying, I think you’ll find our farrow friends take very well to some ’jack-inspired conversions.

Now I just need to finish up the rest of the army… Maybe some Retribution and Convergence Gun Boars?
