Insider 1-26-2015
Hello, everyone! I wanted to tell you a bit about my 25-point Convergence of Cyriss army I painted for Lock & Load GameFest 2014. I just loved how it looked all put together on the table, and quite a few people seemed very interested in the color scheme, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to share my process with the community.
To begin, I wanted to go for a beachy feel with corroded metal. My idea was to make these models look as if they had spent decades at the bottom of the ocean when something finally brought them to the surface. I chose to go with bronze and seafoam green as my main colors, the idea being that they would look as if they had green-painted enamel that had corroded off of their armor, leaving behind patches of the original bronze metal underneath.
I wanted a pale green because it reminded me of the ocean, so to create this, I mixed together a 2:1 ratio of Arcane Blue and Necrotite Green, then added about one part Menoth White Highlight. I used my airbrush to basecoat all of my models Molten Bronze. After the models were covered well with the basecoat, I gave them a wash of 1:1 Brown Ink and water.
Once the ink was dry, I painted on the seafoam mix. I chose areas on the model where I wanted that look of painted armor, and I applied the green in patches to give it the corroded illusion. After that step was done, I gave the seafoam a wash of 1:1 mix of Turquoise Ink and water. Finally, I did a little highlighting with the seafoam mix and Solid Gold—on the enamel and metal, respectively.
I finished up the details and added sand to the bases. Finally, I topped it off with some chopped-up clock gears I found at the craft store, added a rust effect, and voila!: my under-the-sea Convergence was finished!
