The New Year brings exciting new changes to WARMACHINE & HORDES, and today I’d like to discuss with you the most recent change: the new errata document. As you pore through the document, you’ll notice the changes listed are not solely “rules cleanup” but also contain several model entry and Theme Force balance changes as well.
Altering a model entry or Theme Force’s rules for balance purposes is not something we take lightly. Over months—often years—we pay painstakingly close attention to community feedback, event results, and our own internal play experience. Many variables determine if a model receives a balance change, and you might be surprised to learn that “this wins too often” almost never results in those changes—looking at the global event results, you’ll find there’s no silver bullet model or army list that guarantees victory.
Instead, we look at variables such as a model’s effect on the meta and health of the game overall, the play experience both with and against a model, whether or not a model is unintentionally invalidating other options within its own faction, and many, many more considerations. When the decision to make balance-based errata is first made, the change does not happen immediately. Once again, we carefully consider what this new change will bring. We are careful to not fix one issue only to cause two more later on down the road.
*War Room will be updated today, with the digital books being updated by the end of February
Ultimately, what I hope you’ll take away from this is simple: thank you for your passion and your feedback. Constructive, well-thought-out feedback is always useful to us. We appreciate your voice, and while we may not always directly answer you, you should know that we are listening, we’re paying attention, and we’re always striving to ensure that a game of WARMACHINE & HORDES is the greatest tabletop experience you can have.
