In the Crosshairs. Icarus Miniatures Preview Spectre

Greetings Icarus fans. We’ve got another piece of concept art to show off for our sci fi game, The Icarus Project. This week, we’re looking at Thomas Welts, also known as Spectre.

Spectre

Thomas Welts was born on Earth in 2848, to a fairly wealthy family. His mother was lawyer, and his father was marshal detective. At 15, his parents sent him to Stonewall to join the Galactic Marine program.

He was placed in the fire team that would come to be known as the Immortals, along with famed bounty hunter, Gabriel Cross.

Marine Career

During his time as a member of The Immortals, Welts served as the squad’s sniper. From an early age he had stood apart as a particularly gifted marksman.

The imm0rtals operated together for a little over two years after graduation, before Gabriel Cross resigned and left the squad. The Imm0rtals continued on as a four-man unit until the Second Nexus War began. When news of the war reached them, Thomas initially refused to take part. He said that the squad should not take part in front line duty as a four piece, and convinced the unit leader, John Walsh, to allow him to track down Gabriel.

When he found him, Gabriel was posing as a farmer on a fringe world and Thomas was able to convince him to re-join the marines to help the war effort.

The imm0rtals were one of the most prolific Marine units during the war. They took part in 47 high-priority missions over the course of the war, and were present for the battle of Nexus Gate.

After the Second Nexus War

Following the war, and Cross’ second departure, The Immortals resumed service as a four man squad. Whilst on an anti terrorist operation, the squad was caught in an explosion that saw all of them seriously injured. Welts was impaled in four places by debris, puncturing one of his lungs and ruining one of his kidneys. He refused augmentation and was treated conventionally. He made a full recovery, though it took longer than the rest of the squad and once again the squad resumed active duties.
This lasted only a year before Welts decided he had had enough. He resigned from the Marines and returned to Earth to join the GPD. This placement only lasted around two months, as Welts quickly became enraged at all the red tape and bureaucratic paperwork the GPD had to go through. He went AWOL and became a freelance mercenary. He now travels the galaxy under the code name “Spectre”, hunting and killing criminals.

Spectre is among the most skilled marksmen in the galaxy, and there are few who can match his prowess with a rifle. He regularly attends the competition circuit, earning quick and easy money in the shooting challenges. This has lead to him gathering somewhat of a fanbase, and he is never short of companions in-between jobs.

Spectre from Icarus Miniatures
Once again, this piece was completed by the amazing Hokunin. He has really captured the cocksure personality of Spectre. My favourite elements are the kill tallies on his right arm, and the belt of sniper rounds, which makes him look like a long range cowboy style figure.
