Honour or Death – Icarus Miniatures Preview The Praesidian Honour Guard

In today’s post we’re looking at the most ornate of the Praesidian Republic’s army; the Praesidian Honour Guard

Praesidian Honour Guard

Wherever you find the ruling class of the Praesidian Republic, the Praesidian Honour Guard will not be far away.

Tasked with protecting leaders and figures of importance, the honour cut a striking image in their golden armour.

The primary role of the honour guard is protection. Praesidians of particular renown, such as planetary leaders, will normally be accompanied by a group of 2 or 4 honour guards.

Praesidian Honour Guards usually come from a career military background, and are selected for their formidable skills. Because of their skills, and the role they occupy, the honour guard have access to some of the best equipment in the Republic.

Their armour is a combat version of ceremonial Praesidian armour, and offers far more protection that the armour worn by Praesidian infantry. All honour guard carry a sword and energy shield, though most choose to exchange their sword for the more traditional glaive.

Guardians of the Future

The other main role of the honour guard is the defence of the Praesidian Birthing Colonies. While Birthing Mothers are responsible for day-to-day security, each colony has a regiment of honour guard who guard the most important areas.

In the event of an invasion, it is the honour guards’ responsibility to ensure any un-hatched eggs are evacuated and defended.

Praesidian Honour Guard from Icarus Miniatures

The outstanding concept art for the Praesidian Honour Guard was done by our artist, Daniel Comerci, who did the previous Praesidian pieces. This concept keeps the core elements of the Praesidian character; round shapes, graceful and elegant look, but adds a very regal aspect.

The Honour Guard would look perfect lining the walls of a king’s hall. The armour is based on ancient Praesidian designs, when they still bowed to a king, and the character really reflects this.

My favorite aspect is the energy shield. While the technology can be adapted to cover the whole body like a film, the honour guards choose to wield it as an actual shield. I love the way the energy field distorts the character’s body behind it.

The cape is also a really ice feature, which helps give her more of a “royal” presence. I think that the miniature will look fantastic, with her cloak flowing, and a nice dynamic pose.
