Five Leagues from the borderlands. Solo fantasy skirmish

Step into the bleak, dark woods of the borderlands with Nordic Weasel’s new, massively expanded 2nd edition of Five Leagues From the Borderlands.

Written for solo gaming from the ground up, this is a tense campaign game pitting your war band of heroes against the villains, roaming dead and other denizens of the night.

Roll up and outfit your warband, undertake randomly generated missions fleshed out with village and campaign events. Maybe there’s a robber baron who needs dealing with. Maybe a wandering knight challenges you to a duel.
Maybe the world is literally coming to an end.

As you play you will work to eliminate threats to the local village and as you play battles and progress, you can collect rewards in the form of loot, experience and of course an occasional early grave for your warriors.

The rules are written from the ground up for solo play: The game system is tailored to provide an interesting combat system, without overloading you in stuff to track and all solo information is written right into the relevant rules sections. In other words when you are reading about how to move your troops, the game will also explain how the Enemy moves instead of having to flip to an appendix in the back.

Combat is a simple D6 based system with melee’s swirling back and forth rather than figures simply standing toe to toe and taking turns hitting each other.

Between each battle, you will work out experience improvements, acquire skills, find interesting loot. You can take a number of actions in town to recruit new warriors, train or forage for rare herbs. Random village events will shake things up.

For players who prefer a more narrative game, an extensive system of Story Points is provided to let you tailor the experience to your liking. We even provide difficulty settings: Play on Adventure mode if you want a friendlier campaign game that’s more story oriented. Try Veteran mode for a tough fight with more loot. For the truly hardcore there’s Gritted Teeth mode: A brutal fight for survival.

To play you need a handful of suitable miniatures in any scale you like: A typical battle is 6-8 heroes and a similar number of bad guys.

A battle can be played in roughly 20 minutes with fast setup.

If you are looking to be social, the game works phenomenally well playing with a friend as well. Simply split the heroes between you and adventure together!
