For this concept art Insider, I’ll be talking about the MiniCrate concept for Gastone Crossebones. The description for this concept was incredibly simple: it should be Lieutenant Gastone Crosse re-imagined as a pirate! I assigned the concept to Andrea Uderzo, and he sent me the four rough sketches below.

It was a unanimous vote as the entire concept team chose v2 with pose 5 for the final figure.

So, the last thing to do was establish the studio color scheme. After a brief conversation with Dallas Kemp, we both agreed that we should go for a traditional pirate-themed look. My first draft for the color concept was also the final version used for the painted model.

The final model was beautifully sculpted by Irek Zieliński and then masterfully painted by studio painter Brendan Roy and is a very faithful reproduction of Andrea’s final concept art.
