Coming Soon: Ash Waste Terrain

Brutal Cities are expanding their boundaries to the Ash Wastes!

In a departure from the distinctive brutalist or modernist buildings designed for urban/sci-fi tables, the upcoming Ash Waste terrain range takes design elements from the deconstructivist movement. With an emphasis on chaotic forms, players have the opportunity to create truly customizable scenery on the wargaming table.

Deconstructivist Terrain?

Anyone not familiar with the term deconstructivism will still likely be familiar with its elements across media. Subverting the ideas within modernist and post-modernist architecture – deconstructivism, as the name would suggest, breaks apart construction elements like columns, walls, etc. These forms are often featured in art and video games in post-apocalyptic settings. For example, imagine scraps of a hull of a crashed spaceship that has been scavenged and repurposed for shelter in a cursed wasteland.

Development

Brutal Cities Ash Waste Terrain Adaptability
From left to right: Post-apocalyptic tables for Necromunda, Team Yankee, and Corvus Belli’s Infinity.

These terrain pieces are inspired by a recent Necromunda campaign with some friends. Since then, it’s been play-tested at the Cancon Infinity tournament, with encouraging feedback from the players. So, the kit is designed to be game/scale-agnostic (see the 15mm tank above!) and allow the limitless potential for scenery. This is no standard ready-to-build terrain kit – instructions are not needed! However, you can watch the video below to see the process and get some ideas on constructing your own Ash Waste terrain.

Also, check out the blog post for more behind-the-scenes information, and to see what’s included in the kit. While you’re there, sign up for the mailing list to be notified of the Ash Waste terrain launch!
