Chain of Command
Announcing the Fifth Force Pack in the Rogue Squadron Cycle
“I am Grand Admiral Thrawn, warlord of the Empire, servant of the Emperor.”
–Grand Admiral Thrawn
Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce Chain of Command, the fifth Force Pack in the Rogue Squadron cycle for Star Wars™: The Card Game!
Enter the chaotic naval combat of the Galactic Civil War in Chain of Command. This Force Pack continues the main themes of the Rogue Squadron cycle, introducing more ace Pilots to fly your cutting-edge Vehicles. In this expansion, you can fly with the swoop gangs of Nar Shaddaa or break through an Imperial blockade with the Smugglers and Spies. You may mire your opponents in endless bureaucracy, or watch the beginning of Luke Skywalker’s journey with his uncle, Owen Lars. No matter which path you take, the cards in Chain of Command offer new strategies for any faction.
In the history of the Imperial Navy, only one non-human has ever attained the rank of Grand Admiral. An unparalleled tactical genius, the skill of this admiral brought him dozens of victories. Now, in Chain of Command, you can enlist the services of Grand Admiral Thrawn in your battles to crush the light side.
The Last Grand Admiral
With this objective set, you’ll find the tools you need to outwit your opponent on the field of battle and showcase your superior tactics. The objective set begins with The Last Grand Admiral (Chain of Command, 806) objective, which provides two resources for your conquest, fueling the war effort of the Imperial Navy and helping you play the cards you need to gain the upper hand. The set also contains a copy of Supporting Fire (Chain of Command, 433), bringing an added level of tactics to your edge battles by giving you the opportunity to play a non-fate card into the edge stack after cards are revealed.
Of course, the card that truly enables you to bring your superior tactics to life is Grand Admiral Thrawn (Chain of Command, 807). Grand Admiral Thrawn offers two tactics icons, allowing you to easily shut down any light side attacks, and he also bears the elite keyword, helping you keep him free of focus tokens. But Thrawn’s special ability is what truly sets him apart as a master Tactician. As an Action, you can focus Grand Admiral Thrawn during an engagement to place a focus token on a participating enemy unit. Best of all, Thrawn doesn’t even need to be participating in the engagement to use his Action. The versatility of this ability opens new courses of action to the Imperial Navy. You can use it to shut down a threatening attacker or lock down a defender, clearing the way for the massed forces of the Empire. You can even use it to stack another focus token on a unit after it strikes, potentially ensuring that the unit won’t be able to completely refresh.
A unit as powerful as Grand Admiral Thrawn will naturally be quite a target for your enemy’s units. This set introduces a way to safeguard your commanders with two copies of the Noghri Bodyguard (Chain of Command, 808). The Noghri Bodyguards can be effective defenders in their own capacity, but they also bear the protect Officer keyword, allowing them to protect Grand Admiral Thrawn in any battle. The Noghri Bodyguards are equally useful for protecting other crucial members of the Imperial Navy leadership, including Admiral Motti (Core Set, 8), General Mohc (Heroes and Legends, 516), and Grand Moff Tarkin (Core Set, 63).
The objective set concludes with Chain of Command (Chain of Command, 809), an event which lets you spread your tactical prowess across the board. This event invites you to choose up to two Imperial Navy Officer units, each controlled by a different friendly player, and remove one focus token from each targeted unit. You may use this event to unexpectedly free up Admiral Motti’s resources, or prepare an unforeseen defense to your enemy’s attack. You can even use it to refresh Grand Admiral Thrawn, using his ability on your opponent’s turn after you’ve used it on your own turn!
Command the Fleet
With Chain of Command, you can take your place on the bridge and command the massed forces of the Imperial Navy, or you fly your starfighters to victory with another faction. Bring the power of the Empire to bear against your opponents with this Force Pack!
