“Always in motion is the future.”
–Yoda, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Star Wars™: The Card Game is a tense and fast-paced card game portraying the battles, subterfuge, and heroics of the Galactic Civil War. But it is also a Living Card Game®, that grows and changes as time goes on. As the game receives new cards, powerful combinations may arise that were never intended.

The combination of the Aquaris Freeholders (Heroes and Legends, 506) and Holding All the Cards (Lure of the Dark Side, 527) has significantly affected the metagame in the past month. In response to this, the developers have introduced a restricted list to Star Wars: The Card Game. For more information, download the updated FAQ (6.1 MB, pdf) and read the developers’ introduction to the restricted list below!

A Word from the Developers

Hello Star Wars: The Card Game players,

Upon taking stock of the competitive environment that has emerged in the current regionals season, it has become increasingly evident that the combination of Holding All the Cards and the Aquaris Freeholders has warped the tournament experience and detracted from the game’s overall enjoyment for a large portion of our player base. Instead of allowing this combination to persist and further skew the metagame, we decided to take action with a mid-season FAQ update that removes this combo from the environment.

To this end, we are introducing a restricted list to Star Wars: The Card Game. The restricted list is a tool that we have used in other games to regulate the environment without going to the extremes of banning cards or introducing unnecessary errata. When building a deck, a player is permitted to include the maximum number of copies of one restricted objective set in his deck. At this time, the two objective sets on the restricted list are The False Report (Heroes and Legends, objective set 99) and Against All Odds (Lure of the Dark Side, objective set 103). This means that, when building a light side deck, a player may include up to two copies of either objective set in his deck, but cannot include both objective sets together in the same deck. (One copy of each is also not permitted.)

We feel that breaking this combination apart is the quickest and most direct means of promoting a healthy competitive environment that fairly challenges and rewards players for their quality of play. To bring this more desirable environment to our player base as quickly as possible, we are releasing this update now, in the middle of the regional season, and it is effective immediately for all sanctioned events.
