Job Description

The editor reviews print and digital materials for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to the company style guide. The editor also manages version control of edited documents and proofs, organizes multi-person proofing efforts, and distributes important editorial information to the company. The editor reports to the editorial manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Review material for format, clarity, and accuracy
Provide editorial guidance on and review of Privateer Press game and game support material. This ranges from game components such as rulebooks and cards to product packaging, website material, fiction, and marketing and organized play materials. The editor’s duty is to clean up the grammar, punctuation, and readability and to work with the authors and project managers to resolve any issues of content or tone.

Review proofs of finished products before press
Review finished products to ensure that no errors have been introduced during production. These details can be as small as the placement of a trademark symbol or as large as missing text or using the correct photo for a product. For larger projects, the editor organizes volunteer reviewers, collates and approves the proofreading notes, and maintains version control until ultimately signing off that the product is press-worthy.

Support company reference material
The editor works with the editorial manager to keep the company style guide current and the staff informed on its contents as well as to identify and create other needed reference material.
