Battle Report: Judge Dredd ‘Barko Brothers’ Scenario
Last Friday we released another wave of the good and the not-so-good out into the streets of the Mega Cities…
With that in mind, we’ve banished Sam Philips – one of our regular article contributors – to the Long Walk into the Cursed Earth, with orders not to return until he’d learnt how to play the game and had a new battle report to present…
We decided upon the Barko Brothers introductory scenario for our first game, keeping the rules nice and simple, we set the game up according to the scenario rules.
The Forces
- Judge Mackey
- 3 Barko Brothers and Rex
Turn 1:
With two actions to each miniature, it was Judge Mackey that got the first turn, moving twice into cover from the furthest gang member, keeping an ever watchful eye on his surroundings. The Barko Brothers all moved up to the furthest point in their area, waiting for the lone Judge’s next move. Rex, unlike his fellows, could move freely around the table and enabled the closest brother to him to then move freely as well. Together they proceeded to hunt down the lawman.
Turn 2
Judge Mackey further advanced around the corner of a building and spotted his target, he managed to get a shot off at the gang member, but missed him!
Alerted to the whereabouts of the Judge, the youngest of the Barkos opened up with his pistol and hit his mark. Fortunately the Judge’s armour saved him from harm. The rest of the brothers along with Rex spent the turn manoeuvring into better firing positions.
Turn 3
The Judge stayed where he was and opted to fire twice at the perp, not just hitting him twice but killing him outright! Rex and the Barko Brother with him moved up into cover, taking a couple of pot shots as they went, hitting their mark but once more the Judges armour held out. The third ganger moved to the edge of his cover, trying to get a bead on the lawman’s position.
Turn 4
The closest ganger drew his iron bar and launched himself at Mackey, which proved to be his undoing as the experienced Mackey beat him to the ground, using both of his actions. Seeing this, the last two perps moved closer, allowing Rex, with his more powerful double-barreled stump gun, to wound the Judge, whilst his companion missed entirely with his six shooter.
Turn 5
Mackey – incensed by his wound – fired his Lawgiver, killing the lone ganger and severely wounding Rex. In response Rex fired again, missing his target! His frustration got the better of him, and he charged towards Judge Mackey, hoping to best him in combat. With one Hit Point remaining each, it would be a close fought fight. Judge Mackey managed to fend off the desperate blows of the ganger and – smashing him down – ended the brawl and the game! Judge Mackey had once more brought justice to the unjust.
Aftermath
For our first taste of the Dredd game, it was a great one, with the lone Judge seemingly outgunned and out-manned, it was a great surprise to see what one lawman can do to four times his number! We played with a more simplified version of the rules, using the core mechanics to get to grips with the basics. We aim to fight a bigger battle in the future and make use of the additional rules, especially the Judge’s Arrest capability! This scenario lasted around an hour, giving a great introduction into Judge Dredd the Miniatures game.
