SKY’S THE LIMIT
We are pleased to reveal today a Black Anchor Heavy Industries project that has been in the works for a very long time—two projects, technically: the Mercenary Sky Raider and Sky Bomber battle engines. These large and highly detailed models were a challenge to engineer, but in the end, thanks to additive manufacturing techniques, each one is only eight or nine pieces, depending on which class of airship you prefer — there’s the balloon with a cap on each end, the hull and keel, and then your pilot, turret, and either a rope ladder or a pair of bombs. Easy breezy! You’ll find they are quite easy to assemble while still feeling sturdy once mounted to their 120 mm bases.
Exclusively available directly from Privateer Press, the Mercenary Sky Raider and Sky Bomber are open for preorders today and will begin shipping before the end of the October. And if you’re in for both, make sure to check out the Pirate Balloon Duo Deal, only available during the preorder window, that will keep a little coin in your pocket. Don’t forget, orders over $100 ship free to North America, UK, EU, and Australia, so you won’t be paying any shipping on these airships!
Those with keen eyes checking out today’s update to the app will notice that not every Sky Raider or Sky Bomber is made the same. Whether stolen, traded for, or taken in payment for their assistance on the battlefield, each of these rag-tag vessels puts the weapons, skills, and technology of its respective army to use in that force’s own ways.
Orgoth: The slaves of the Sea Raiders fight knowing all-too-well that the cost of failure can be worse than a simple bite of the whip. This fighting fever enables them to fight while on the move better than any other. Strafing Run is a new rule that adds a die to hit and damage on all of the model’s ranged attacks and damage rolls, dropping the lowest die.
Cygnar: Storm Legion Sky Bombers and Sky Raiders adapt well to the turbulent weather trailing along behind their countrymen’s galvanic technology. Their vessels use this to their advantage in order to become more Evasive in the skies, coupled with a RAT of 7.
Khador: Pirates of the north who join forces with the Winter Korps bolster their armor to a formidable 20. To offset this weight, more volatile gasses are used in the balloon, causing these ships to Crash and Burn spectacularly when brought down. A model with Crash and Burn that is disabled makes a RNG 7, AOE 4, POW 15/10 ranged attack before removing this model from play. And naturally, it also sets models hit ablaze.
House Kallyss: In the forests to the northeast, Sky Raiders employed by House Kallyss employ arcane trickery. As if filled with the spirits of the Void, these ships lurch across the battlefield like creatures possessed. Having the highest defense of the airships at 14 as well as having the Poltergeist rule makes them unusually formidable.
Brineblood Marauders: Though the ability of trolls to adapt to war has never been questioned, the way these pirates have taken to air and sea is the most surprising. Prepared for boarding actions, these vessels are well equipped to ram into opponents with the Momentum rule and MAT 7. This training extends to more than how the vessel attacks; well versed in naval drills, this unit eagerly follows the leadership of the Pyg Battle Brig.
It’s fair to say that all of these armies, when fortified with Sky Raiders and Sky Bombers, each bring their own unique meaning to the war cry, “Death from above”!
