Monsterpocalypse – Dimensional Doorway League
Ahoy, Monster Universe—it’s your friendly neighborhood Privateer Monsterpocalypse Dev, Emanuel Class, and we are overjoyed to announce the launch of the new Dimensional Doorway League for Monsterpocalypse. This escalation league offers a springboard for new players to dip a toe into Organized Play while offering a way to keep it fresh for the seasoned veterans. No matter your level of play, the Dimensional Doorway League has something exciting to offer you. The best part is that every card in the game is written—except yours! As players proceed deeper into the league, they develop their own stat cards with special Perks from the Perk Vault.
Achievement League
In the Monsterpocalypse Dimensional Doorway Achievement League, players complete objectives from a list of achievements offered at their respective levels, earning achievement points to unlock higher levels of the league.
Players are challenged to complete objectives with increasing difficulty at each level. As the league achievements get more difficult, the players themselves become more powerful as well.
Players can unlock a total of five levels of play during the league after completing the entire list of achievements for their level to unlock the next level.
This league is designed to be played out in a series over the course of 6–8 weeks. Event Organizers may choose to skip levels of the league to better fit the needs of their timeline or the experience of their group.
When a player completes all of the achievements at their level, that player unlocks the next level of the league for themselves. When players unlock a new level, they are granted a Perk from the Vault. Players may choose one Perk for their league level or from lower levels from the Perk Vault. These Perks put you, the player, at the center of the action as the most powerful piece in the game.
Perks are permanent and can be used throughout the league. Vault Perks are added to a player’s list, not to individual models. Players are ranked in the league according to the number of overall points they have earned plus the number of games that player has won.
A player may not earn more than 15 points toward their ranking score by winning games. At level five, players earn points for every achievement they complete from the level five list of achievements, and some achievements can be completed more than once at this level.
When two players at different levels play each other, they may choose which of their levels they play at.
That means that if a higher-level player wants to challenge a lower-level player, they can step down to their level or the other player can temporarily boost their Perk level and MDAB level to the other player’s level for the duration of that game. Regardless of which level players play at, they still earn Perks in their respective levels.
Players only advance from one level to the next at the end of a completed game. Players can only add Perks from the Vault to their list before or after games, not during.
Quests
Games with random elements and head-to-head opponents can be unpredictable. Knowing that some players will struggle with different achievements or need to miss weeks due to life, we built in a safety net to keep players moving forward in the league.
If a player misses a week or more of the league, that player may instead participate in a Quest. A player can only complete each Quest once per league. (Players who do not miss any weeks may still participate in a Quest to further themselves in the league.)
When a player completes a Quest, they may mark off achievements from their current level equal to that Quest’s Bounty (listed in parentheses after the Quest details).
This allows players to complete one or more achievements from their current level based on that Quest’s difficulty.
The intent is that no player is stuck or left behind.
Co-Op Mode
To keep things fun and to incorporate alternate modes of play, we have integrated a way for players to play together in Megaton Mashup while still using their Perks and completing achievements. In fact, some achievements will be considerably easier while playing Megaton Mashup.
Players can earn achievement points by teaming up against a boss monster (Villain) using the rules outlined in Megaton Mashup. As players level up, so should the boss monster. We have added some additional rules you can add to the Megaton Mashup monster at each level to increase the boss monster’s difficulty.
In the league, the super-powered players are put behind the wheel of a time-spiraling, universe-traversing apartment ship. The Multi-Dimensional Apartment Building (aka MDAB) is an upgradeable building that grows with the players as they grow throughout the league.
The MDAB is legal for Organized Play, and we challenge players to try it out in Crush Hour events. When played in other Organized Play events, the MDAB does not bring along all of the cool upgrades you earn in the league. Each time a player crosses into a new level of the league, they are given the opportunity to improve their MDAB with a new ability from their corresponding level or the levels below it. The MDAB is considered Out of Phase for league play.
Out of Phase – Players cannot target other players’ Multidimensional Apartment Building with Action: City Planning or use the Action: Repair action to return an MDAB to play that they did not bring to the game.
Each level of the league also comes with some restrictions and guidelines on how to play. You can skip the earliest levels if the group is more experienced or you can break it into sections, spreading it out over multiple seasons of play and growth. There is no wrong way to play as long as everyone is having fun.
Players start out with only the bare minimum and their MDAB. Once players have mastered the basics, they unlock higher levels of play with harder achievements to explore. They also unlock the option to use a sideboard of monsters and units. This gives players the flexibility to play with more of their collection and allows for experienced players to exercise their knowledge of the game to engineer the right conditions for achievements or victory.
Once players make it to the fifth level of the league, they open a list of achievements that can be completed multiple times in accordance with the number listed at the end of the achievement.
At the start of the league, players may select a Perk from level one of the Perk Vault. As players advance to a new level, they may select a new Perk. Each new level unlocks new Perks from the Perk Vault. When a player completes each of the level five Achievements at least once, they may select an additional Perk from the Perk Vault.
Perks are stacked in such a way as to allow players diverse options of growth as well as to create lines of play that are only possible during the Dimensional Doorway League.
