2018: A year in Review


With 2018 coming to a close we sought to round up some of our favourite releases of the year!

January

We started off 2018 with a bang with the Bolt Action campaign book: Market Garden.

For Bolt Action players Market Garden has it all – daring attacks, determined resistance and heroic last stands by American, British, German and Polish troops ranging from elite veteran paratroopers to novices and from obsolete armoured cars to King Tiger tanks.

February

February saw the Panzer 38t plastic tank rumbling into our armies and we expanded the Dark ages!

Most commonly known as the Panzer 38(t), this light tank was originally a Czech design – the LT vz. 38. Well-liked by its crews for its dependability and ease of repair, over 1,400 38(t)s were produced and saw active service for Germany during the invasion of Poland, the Battle for France and on the Eastern Front.

A notoriously unstable and rebellious member of the Roman Empire, Britannia was thrown into bloody conflict as the Western Roman Empire began to crumble. Axe, spear and sword became the dominant currency for those vying for control of the kingdoms.

March

As we continued the March of time… we wrapped up some plastic German infantry in winter gear! Plus, we released the Sohei warrior monks and the Saxons!

Leading with a Saxon Warlord, defend your homes and land with this Saxon starter army!

Hozoin In’ei, the abbot of the temple of Mount Hiei, leads his group of monks in a bitter struggle for the future of this sacred land. Armed with bows, Naginata and iron discipline, the monks are ready to pay the highest price for victory.

The resourceful German landser (common soldiers) often had to make do with little more than their standard issue woollen greatcoat, gloves, scarves and a steely determination to not only stave off the cold, but also be able to fight and win.

April

April was no joke, we certainly had a good mix! Pike & Shotte, Gates of Antares and Bolt Action!

The late 15th and early 16th centuries in Europe were defined by near-constant warfare. National ‘standing armies’ were unheard of and the ambitions of empires were reliant on the mercenaries they could afford to hire.

The Ghar Empire is torn asunder by rebellion! From the world of Gharon Prime, the Supreme Commander despatches his vast and powerful armies to track down and destroy the rebels. Alas, even the best and most favoured of the Ghar Commanders is no match for this ragged army of mere Outcasts led by the most notorious and dangerous of them all – the former commander and now disgraced Fartok!

Based on the reliable Czechoslovakian Panzer 38(t) chassis, almost 3,000 of Hetzers (Baiters) were built by the war’s end. Their small size and very low profile gave them distinct advantages in the role of tank hunters. With 3 variants from one kit, this is a tank that must be had in everyone’s collection.

May

May we interest you with some new US plastic infantry? Or, the resin Algoryn AI Bastion? Maybe the warrior women known as the Onna Bugeisha? How about the new expansion for Konflikt ’47, Defiance?

June

Ramping up for Summer, things sure got hot with all the spicy releases we had in June!

Originally developed as an anti-aircraft weapon, the Flak 37 8.8cm (or Eighty-eight as it became known by Allied troops) had a high muzzle velocity to allow it to reach the higher ranges modern bombers were capable of at the time. Our outstanding plastic kit comes with metal crew, data cards and waterslide decals.

Inspired by the powerful British Churchill Crocodile and their own experiences in the Pacific with other versions of flamethrower tanks the US army ordered some 100 Sherman Crocodile variants from the British, who were recognised as leading the field in Flamethrower technology.

Fresh in from our great supplier Italari, this Flak Bunker is based on the R677 bunker template with dual purpose anti-tank and anti-aircraft capability. Commonly house either 7.5cm anti-tank guns and light anti-aircraft guns such as the 2cm, 3.7cm and quad 2cm flak guns they provided deadly firepower capable of striking invaders as they landed as well, at sea and protection from Allied air attack. Ready for D-Day 2019!

This Coastal Defence bunker follows the R612/R680 templates for coastal defence bunkers with its distinctive flanking wall. These bunkers would most commonly house either 7.5cm anti-tank guns or 10.5cm field howitzers and provided deadly firepower capable of striking invaders as they landed as well as at sea.

And the big one for summer 2018 has to be 2000AD Strontium Dog!


This fast-paced tabletop miniatures game allows two or more players to fight out scenes from the Strontium Dog universe defined by legendary comic creators John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. Players take control of a small team of bounty hunters or the outlaws, criminals and renegades they hunt in gun battles, chases and showdowns across the galaxy.

July

August

Schools out and we ran amok in the Western Desert for Bolt Action! Plus, Black Powder got its second edition and giant bi-pedal walker for the Germans in Konflikt ’47!

With further developments of the Rift-tech walker technology, Germany has been able to enhance its panzermech programme with the addition of a bipedal jump-capable walker, able to compete with the versatility of the US Grizzly and Mudskipper chassis…

September

For September, we took to the skies with a series of Blood Red Skies releases!

When the US Navy and Marine Corps entered the Second World War, they had only one effective fighter aircraft available to them: the F4F Wildcat. Fortunately, the Wildcat proved more than equal to the task of holding the line.

Joe Foss became the first American ‘Ace of Aces” in WWII during three months of frenzied air combat during the Battle of Guadalcanal, as he lead a flight of eight Marine Corps Grumman F4F Wildcats known as “Foss’s Flying Circus”.

The B5N didn’t compare to other aircraft at the start of its involvement in the war, but it still served throughout the entirety of it. It had a 3-man crew, pilot, navigator/bombardier/observer, and radio operator/gunner.

October

Winter was starting to roll in, so we reviewed the brave Belgians and French plus Blood Red Skies British planes are spotted.

November

Some choppy seas in November as we release our brand new naval game Cruel Seas and the Battle of France book for Bolt Action!

The Battle of France saw German forces sweep across the Low Countries and towards Paris, crushing Allied resistance in just six weeks.

December

There’s no winding down for the year here at Warlord! We make sure to end it on a high note with the legendary Seven Ronin and the pre-order of Warlords of Erehwon the new fantasy skirmish game by Rick Priestley…

The characters represented in this box are designed to be used together in games of the award-winning Test of Honour and, if commanded well, they form a powerful force. However, they are armed only with swords and so can be vulnerable to bow fire and muskets.
