Insider 10-04-2017

Welcome to the first of many Insiders about some of the Companies of Iron we’ve been building and playing around the office!

In this series of Insiders, we’ll take a Faction and then present two Company of Iron lists and an overview of how they operate. Twice each week, we’ll take a look at a different Faction and feature a 20-point and 25-point list. This edition: Khador.

Khador – Task Force Molotok

Commander
Man-o-War Kovnik – Front Line Officer

Composition
Man-O-War Demolition Corps [Unit of 5] – 15pts
Man-O-War Kovnik [Solo] – 5pts

Hand Size = 3

Led by Kovnik Dmetri Ogrev, Task Force Molotok has become a favored weapon of the famed Supreme Kommandant Gurvaldt Irusk for special operations that require maximum destructive force. Molotok began as an experiment by Irusk and Kommander Oleg Strakov in forging a team that combined the durability and power of the Man-O-War with the black operations specialties of Strakov’s feared Assault Kommandos.

Out of the sixty volunteers for the program, only six members ultimately passed the grueling training and earned the designation Task Force Molotok. Since then the team has been deployed numerous times against key targets deep behind enemy lines, each time emerging battered but victorious.

Man-O-War Demolition Corps are some of the hardest hitting models you’ll ever need in Company of Iron. Does your opponent’s list contain a warjack? These hammer-wielding maniacs will make short work of it! Their base MAT of 7 will do them well when facing smaller targets. With 8 wounds and a solid armor of 16, the Demolition Corps will take a few hits before going down. Make sure to hold onto your recovery cards and re-rolls to keep your army alive, as you will likely be outnumbered!

The Kovnik gives desperate pace to the army, allowing you to offset your slow speed. With his excellent CMD stat of 9, you will have no problems spreading your card effects all over the battlefield!

Khador – Grigorovich’s Honor Guard

Commander
Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich – Mission Specialist

Composition
Widowmaker Scouts [Unit of 4] – 8pts
Winter Guard Infantry [Unit of 6] – 6pts
Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich [Solo] – 4pts
Greylord Ternion [Unit of 3] – 7pts

Hand Size = 4

Some of the missions the High Kommand issues to Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich of the “Unbreakable” 111th require such discretion that he must personally see to their completion. Supported by a versatile honor guard of trusted Winter Guard infantry, Widowmakers, and an attaché from the Greylords Covenant, Grigorovich breaks off from the rest of the 111th to pursue the objectives of his clandestine missions.

Our second list is a 25-point build. This really plays up the ranged game available to Khador. Between Widowmaker Scouts, the Winterguard Infantry, and the Greylord Ternion, you have a large number of ranged attacks that can help pressure your opponents’ armies. Widowmakers are excellent at clearing the way for Winterguard Infantry to advance and complete objectives. Kovnik Jozef has Courage of the Forefathers, which gives the Winterguard Infantry Tough, allowing for a reroll of a “Dead” result in Company of Iron. Add in For the Motherland and your Winterguard Infantry become quite accurate if they can also stack the benefit with an aiming bonus.

All in all, this is a versatile list that brings a solid ranged threat and a high volume of accurate attacks, while retaining durability with Tough Winterguard Infantry. In general, it will be best suited for the Defensive side of scenarios in which your opponent will have to push into your force.

This is just the beginning of options for Company of Iron, and I will be exploring more options for other Factions in upcoming Insiders!
