Warzone Resurrection Unit Spotlight: Mourning Wolves

Mourning Wolves

Mourning Wolves 01
In the Lore:

The fierce female warriors known as Mourning Wolves originate from all walks of Imperial life. However, they all have one thing in common. Each and every one has lost someone very dear to them to The Dark Legion or war with the other Corporations. The vast majority of them are war widows, while some have lost fathers or children, and each has vowed to exact revenge on those responsible for their losses.

In battle the Mourning Wolves howl as they charge their foes, seemingly heedless of the danger they face

or the prospect of their own death. They do not fear their end, and choose to stare it in the face, knowing that if they should perish, they will once again be embraced by their lost loves.

On the Tabletop:

Mourning Wolves are a great shock-attack squad for any Imperial army. Keep in mind that if your army is led by a Wolfbane, the Mourning Wolves are Troops, if your army is led by a member of the Ministry of War, these vicious warrior women are a Support choice.

The things that stands out about Mourning Wolves is their Special Skills. They only have Generic Special Skills, which suggests it is their weapons that make them truly unique. However, the array of skills they have is not to be sniffed at. They are fearless, so never run away; they have Contempt for all Dark Legion, allowing them to re-roll failed Close Combat Skill Tests against Dark Legion Models. They also have the ability to infiltrate deep into the battlefield, allowing them to get up close and personal, where they truly shine and they are also slippery, so quite hard to hit!

The
Mourning wolves are equipped with their signature Wolf Claw and Tangle Chain weapons, giving them a total Strength value of 11. Sure, this is not exactly high, but the benefit of them is that they are rolling two dice each per turn, minimum, with their Rate of Attack value of 2. They can even ‘Hold an enemy down’, by turning to burn 1 Resource Card, even in the front facing! This can really reveal the weak side of an enemy model! Not only that, but the Mourning Wolves even get Impenetrable Armour (10) in Close Combat because of these weapons! Nasty!

These femme fatale can be a little disconcerting, with their screeching howl. Because of this, each one has the Dissention special skill, meaning that enemy Squad Commanders or Acting Squad Commanders suffer a -2 modifier to their Leadership!

All in all, the tactical flexibility of the Mourning Wolves is not to be sniffed at. They are a cheap option for Troops or Support, giving a much needed close combat advantage to most Imperial armies. It’s worth looking into their upgrades, as they do have access to some limited, but powerful, ranged weaponry and even a particularly Special Character of note.
