There are two more factions to be unveiled for Sauriana preceding the game’s Kickstarter launch on October 1st. Today, we take a look at the Cope Collective. Bitter rivals of the Othniellians previewed last week, the Cope Collective are likewise paleontologists – led by the Edward Drinker Cope.

Where the two factions differ, however, is easy to understand. Whereas the Othniellians are fond of fieldwork, getting their hands dirty, and experimenting with biology…the Cope Collective prefers cold, clinical science. Their great fossil caches and museums are guarded by steam-powered automata, and their leaders are gentleman scholars – experts at cataloging and curating prehistoric lifeforms and engineering their own vision of perfection. The faction is also quite fond of using outside Agents to do their dirty work – Pinkerton Agents, mercenaries, dinosaur wranglers, and yellow journalists spread Cope’s influence far and wide in pursuit of prestige and power.

In the game of Sauriana, the Cope Collective excels at board control and ranged combat – a mix of fragile, specialized scientists and engineers supported by lumbering, immensely resilient automatons. Their individual Agents tend to be geared for supporting one another and synergizing on the battlefield, and with the right Assets to equip them, can be an incredibly difficult faction to beat.

With a diverse array of wonder-weapons and steampunk-esque creations, this is the faction for the real lovers of Victorian-era weirdness, with a healthy dose of Wild West tropes and gentleman-scientists ready to become a part of your Sauriana band.
