List Building With The Supreme Guardian
The Supreme Guardian is easily one of the biggest and most impressive battle engines we’ve ever produced. When I first learned this model was going to become a reality, my mind began to spin up all sorts of crazy exalted themed lists to utilize one or two of them in. Not just for internal playtesting, but also for my own fun!
See, I’ve never owned a Skorne army of my own. Sure, I’ve played Skorne countless times as a member of the development team, but they were never part of my personal collection. That’s all changing with the release of the Supreme Guardian! My favorite aspect of Skorne has always been the exalted soldiers. Since the beginning with the original Ancestral Guardian, I just loved the look and narrative of these “living” statues.
Over the years I toyed around with building exalted themed armies, but never found something that really stuck for me. Now, with this new centerpiece model to build my army around, I can’t stop brewing up lists that I want to collect and play. Here’s what I’m currently thinking I’ll start with:

Guns? Who needs guns? Oh wait, I’ve actually got some . . . neat. This list plays exactly how I want an exalted army to play. With a bit of ranged support, my silent stone soldiers march up the field, get settled in, hit harder than expected thanks to Zaal’s Aura of Power, and then they are just a pain in the rear to get off the table. Between Zaal’s feat and the Supreme Guardian’s Well of Rage rule, killing an immortal can be just as hard as keeping them dead.
The list is admittedly a little short on hardcore armor cracking, but the Supreme Guardian is no slouch in melee and gets serious work done with its giant obsidian sword. I’m looking forward to testing this specific list out a ton, figuring out my weak spots, tweaking models here and there, and getting on with the painting. I’ll just have to figure out what style of stone I want to paint on all these exalted models!
