Insider 10-30-2017 – Circle in Company of Iron

Welcome to another installment of Company of Iron list building! I’m your host, Pill Wagani (this is my pen name; I think it’s fitting!). Today, we’ll be talking about Circle Orboros and two lists that focus on the Wolf Sworn subtheme. These lists have a large number of models for their points and generally bring a significant number of attacks against the enemy, excelling at destroying opposing forces while being speedy enough to apply scenario pressure.

Circle – The Raven’s Claw (20 pts)

Moving unpredictably through forests and striking without warning, the Reeve Hunter Corvin Ravensbrook and his Reeves of Orboros are a reminder that all are prey to the keen-eyed hunter and his well-placed arrow. Serving the powerful druid Krueger the Stormlord, Corvin and his reeves use their unmatched wilderness skills to lay careful traps and ambushes for unwary enemies, eliminating threats to the Stormlord before they can compromise his grand work.

Commander:
Reeve Hunter – Mission Specialist

Composition:
Reeves of Orboros [Unit of 10] – 16pts
Reeve Hunter [Solo] – 4pts

Hand Size = 4

This list outputs an incredible number of ranged attacks. Because Reeves of Orboros have ROF 2 and Combined Ranged Attack, this hail of crossbow bolts is especially deadly. Injuring many of your opponent’s models in just a few activations can really put you ahead, as enemy players will have to use a lot of cards to shake or recover if they want their models to be able to function normally. With their innate Hunter ability, the Reeves can easily finish off downed opponents from range. The Reeve Hunter (Corvin) has a Leadership rule that gives his reeves Quick Work (and the +3 CMD from the Mission Specialist upgrade really helps spread this rule around!), making them excellent melee models for charging in to finish a downed enemy and deftly snapping off a quick crossbow shot into the opposing force.

Circle – Frost Wolves (25 pts)

Members of an ancient Wolf Sworn community on the northern fringe of the Scarsfell Forest, the Frost Wolves serve the potent Vernor the Nightbringer by patrolling some of the northernmost reaches of the Circle Orboros’ dominion. Led by the battle-scarred blackclad Iosif, they have spent much of the last decade eradicating shards of blighted Nyss, who seek to use the remote forest as a spawning ground for Everblight’s foul dragonspawn. The Frost Wolves often find themselves outnumbered by their foes and rely on lightning-fast raiding tactics to avoid protracted combat.

Commander:
Blackclad Wayfarer – Master Strategist

Composition:
Wolves of Orboros [Unit of 6] – 11pts
War Wolf [Solo] – 2pts
Blackclad Wayfarer [Solo] – 4pts
Scarsfell Griffon [Light Warbeast] – 8pts

Hand Size: 5

This list is a lightning-fast, pathfinding, and highly accurate force. Wolves of Orboros with Powerful Charge have a very respectable MAT 8. If your opponent passes their casualty roll, the War Wolf can charge in to finish off the unsuspecting prey! As leader of this ragtag group, Iosif the Wayfarer brings a Magic Ability [7] spray attack to the battlefield, easily dissuading your opponent from grouping up near him. With his Hunter’s Mark special rule, he can guide his fellow warriors to harder targets like opposing warjacks and warbeasts.

Finally, the Scarsfell Griffon brings a high amount of melee damage to the list in addition to being quite speedy. With a base DEF of 15 and Stealth, this warbeast can be very difficult for opponents to deal with effectively.
