Hobby Hangout: Steamjack Workstation

YOOOO! HOBBY HANGOUT! WOOOO! COME MAKE DOPE STUFF WITH ME, DANNY SAMUELS!

Ahem…  Sorry for the outburst. I just get a bit pumped sometimes! Anyway…. Here is how I kitbashed the Steamjack Workstation from this week’s Hobby Hangout.

I first took two of the Khador Siege Chariot yokes and cut one of them a bit shorter than the other. I made sure that when these were put together, they were evenly spaced. I also used a blade to scrape off the Khador insignia. I used my pin vise to add a brass pin where I could connect the two pieces. This added some stability where I glued the two pieces together, which is important since the pieces are very thin.

Using a power drill, pliers, and three thin pieces of floral wire, I wound the wire to create rope. Put the three pieces of wire in the tip of the drill and hold the other end of the wire in your pliers. Start the drill and twist the wire until you like the way it looks. Remember to wear safety glasses for this.

Next, take the Mariner body and drill a few holes in the bottom. Add plastic pipe and wire into the holes and bend it up so the warjack looks like it’s being worked on and there are exposed parts.

Using styrene, bits of basswood, and brass rod, I added legs to the yoke pieces once they had been glued together.

I pinned and glued two sections of rope into the yoke and the shoulder pads for the Mariner. Since this rope was made from steel wire, it should easily hold the weight of the Mariner body without it moving around at all.

I then cut a piece of styrene for the base and added rivets along the edge using my leather punch.

Glue the assembly into the Artillery base pieces and then glue the entire stand to your plastic base.

I used some thicker plastic and some more basswood to add a few more details to the base, and then it’s on to painting!

So, there you have it—your ’jack workstation is ready to get the work done! Be sure to get the parts you need from our store!
